Students

You’ve mastered the theory. But what about the practical side? At HSBC, you can start building your banking career early.

Internships and working student roles give you hands-on experience, real responsibility and a broad view of how we work – across a wide range of teams.

If you’ve already finished university, there are plenty of ways to experience banking up close with us. If you’re a recent graduate planning your next step, our Global Graduate Programme could be the right place to start.

Internships and working student positions

A good internship or working student position is an important part of a successful study programme and lays the foundation for your career. Make the most of your time at university by getting involved in exciting projects and supporting day-to-day business at one of the world’s largest banks. Take the opportunity to learn directly from our specialists and build valuable expert knowledge. With us, you can expect a career full of development opportunities.

Our internships and working student positions are aimed at students from all academic backgrounds. Whether you study business administration, economics, the humanities or a STEM subject, show us what you bring to the table. To ensure you can take on interesting tasks from the start, you should be in your Master’s degree or in the later stages of your Bachelor’s degree and have good to very good academic results. Initial practical experience in the finance or banking sector is an advantage, but not a requirement. We’re also happy to give career changers an insight into the world of HSBC.

An internship with us lasts between three months and six months. Depending on your degree programme and your individual interests, it’s possible in any area of HSBC Germany. Our business areas include Global Banking & Markets, Commercial Banking and Asset Management, as well as all Global Functions such as Risk Management, Controlling, Finance and People (HR). We’ll agree the exact timing with you individually – apply at any time.

A successful internship or working student employment is the best prerequisite for subsequently joining our Global Graduate Programme, trainee programme or moving directly into a permanent role with our organisation. HSBC Germany is as diverse as your interests: we cover the full spectrum of sophisticated and innovative financial services, working very closely with the globally operating HSBC Group. This broad focus opens up many different placement opportunities for our interns and working students.

You’ll get to know the area where you’re placed in depth and can develop your talents and skills in day-to-day business and in projects in line with your interests. Supported by experienced colleagues, you’ll help shape your own career as well as our bank’s business from day one.

Another plus is our business rotation: one day per month you can step away from your position and gain insights into another area of the bank.
